‘It is rather as if I had to read the Photographer Theatremaker’s myths in the Photograph Theatre, fraternizing with them but not quite believing in them. These myths obviously aim (this is what myth is for) at reconciling photography theatre with society (is this necessary? – Yes, indeed: the photograph theatre is dangerous) by endowing it with functions which are, for the Photographer Theatremaker, so many alibis. These functions are: to inform, to represent, to surprise, to cause to signify, to provoke desire. And I, the Spectator, I recognize them with more or less pleasure.’
